The Run Game

Reporters sit at a table and talk about the Eagles run game all the time. It is like the traffic at 5pm, it is always there and annoying. None of these reporters think it is a problem the Eagles abandon it all the time. So let me tell you why all the reporters are wrong and they are not looking at the big picture. The run game does many things, even if you do not get 1 yard out of the play.

First, the run game helps, let me repeat helps the offense line with pass protection. Yes, pass protection because all game long the defenders already know what play is coming and they do not have to warrent any run defense so they just tee off on the offense. If the offense has a running game, wether it works or not, the line has that ability to fake a run block and give them the edge in the trenches. It also helps the line to feel good about working together because all of them just have to push the defender back instead of back pedalling the hole game.

The run game helps the quarter back. Do you think the quarter back should throw the ball 50 times every game. How many throws does a pitcher throw? The quarter back has to get tired by the end of the game. Also the play action-pass helps fake out defenders when you have short yardage plays. The defense has to respect the run game if the team sticks with it.

Even when you get 1 or 2 yards, it does not matter. The defense will tire eventually and the Eagles have the largest line in the NFL so eventually you will get some defenders breathing heavy and you can start to open things up down the feild.

This brings the final note to the run game. It controls the game. It controls the time of possession. And it controls the amount of time your defense gets to rest. I know the defense failed to stop the Chargers and the Cowgirls but our defense cannot rely on our offense to slow the game down and run the clock down for that nice long rest on the sidlelines to get pumped up and come out fresh to stop the opposing offense. Don't forget that if you can sustain a drive and keep the opposing offense on the side lines then it is harder for them to get moving. The run game is crucial and the reporters need to look at it from the big picture not just the stats.

Eagle's Play

What in the world? What do they do now? Where do they go from here? I do believe the Eagles do not read my blogs, that's for sure. Do they know what the I formation is? And will they ever line up and run they ball no matter how many yards they got on the first try? I am tired of this play. I know champion teams know how to tire out a defense and rest their own. How can our defense take a break when we do not control the game clock or they game period. The game needs to be won by control. All the teams that beat the Eagles control the game. They dictate to us what play to call. And why can't Mcnabb audible the formation once in awhile? Have you ever seen this? Donovan is smart and needs to control the offense more. Yes he can pass the ball and no one should doubt it. Even when the defense knows it is coming but to win games you need to give him a break and just give the ball to a back. This is killing the fans and this team is full of young and very talented players all around. The line did a great job with fill-ins and the receivers played their hearts out but the coaches seem to fail again to control the game. The defense is beat up so you need to find ways to keep the offense on the feld and do not forget the scoring part.

Chargers Eagles Game

Mark my words... The Chargers are not stupid. Watch for them to come out and run the ball and screen game come alive. The Eagles D needs to stay sharp. They need to stay with their game plan as normal but use a spy to eliminate those big plays. If they blitz, it should be a run blitz and if they keep an eye on the running back in the blitz then they can stop the screen play. With that keep a saftey deep and we can win this game.

On the other side to the ball is play calling. The Eagles can be a "pound the ball" team if they want to be. We should line up and run the ball 6 times in a row. Eagles - Get crazy and control the clock, something you have never done before. You can show the NFL why the Eagles will win the Superbowl because all phases of this team do work if they want it to. RUN THE BALL. I an rooting for Weaver and Mccoy to have a huge game.

Hanson Suspended

What the ____ is going on? Why suspend Hanson when the NFL did not suspend the Williams brothers? How can anyone let this go? I want to hear the NFL's reponse to this. The team has to be outraged. Hanson might not be the best corner we have but I know the Eagles assigned him Moss a few gams and we shut Moss out in those games. He was the tallest corner and now we are going up against the tallest receivers the Sunday. With all the bad calls from the refs, is this a conspiricy against the Eagles for giving Vick a second chance? Tell me your thoughts.

Who Are They?

The Eagles need to find themselves. No one in the media can decide who they are and you can tell by their play, they do not know. I think the screen game was a the best part of the Dallas game and that does constitute a run play. It seemed the routes the receivers were runnung took to long. When the deep ball is not there then the short dump pass and over the middle had to be there. When will the play caller get better at this. If the pass rush is too much then what do you do? Go back to the tape and watch the Saints. They are beating everyone and you cannot tell me they have some secret that no one can see. The Eagles are way too predictable. When I watch the game I can tell what play they rnning before the snap and the snap count. The snap is almost the same. This is common things the offense has to fix to win big games. Tell me your thoughts.

Eagles Vrs. Charges

This is another equally matched fight with two second place teams in the division. Eagle's offense is 15th and Charge's offense is 17th. Eagle's D is 10th and Charger's is 11th. The key in the stats is the run Defense. Eagles are 10th but the Charges are 26th. If you remember all my other comments about the Eagles you know what I am going to say next. HELLO EAGLES - RUN THE BALL. Run it like it is your last game of the year. Keep the offense on the field and pound the rock. I want to see 8 to 10 run plays in a row. Make history Andy and run more times then pass. Please I beg you to run the ball. The Eagles have all the potential ti win the game if the play calling is right. I guess we will see. I am very excited for next week. And I love Thursday night football. And everyone out there say a prayer for Brian Westbrook and his injury. Head injuries are scary and I hope he can heal his head and get back.

Mid Season Report

Here we are half way complete. Eagles 5 wins and 3 losses. This is a good season so far and you have to think about all the aspects to this team and everything that has happened so far...

First we have the draft. Great job from the front office to pull things together from all these players that were drafted and contributing. Maclin needs more timing with Mcnabb but is working great. Mccoy is having a great season as a back up but better then most people think. Westbrook took him under his wing and you can see the teaching on the feild. Mccoy keeps improving every time he touches the ball.Brandon Gibson got us Witherspoon. This is probably the best deal the Eagles done in the draft yet. Will is a leader and obviously a great middle line backer.

Next we go to free agency. Peters is a great tackle and you can see him fitting in every week and as time goes on he is improving all the time. This is all from great coaching. Weaver is another great addition. We need Andy to let him run and run and block in every game. He is explosive and powerfull. This was my favorite add on this year. I love to see him pound the rock up the middle. I will not put Vick in this because the Eagles did not sign Vick to be a game changer. It is very obvious he is here to rebuild his life. I think this is fantastic for the Eagles to help a player out but he is not a game changer.

Next go to the old draft players. Justice is a wonderfull story and again , you have to go to the coaching staff for the improvements Justice made in 2 years. He could go to the pro bowl. Celek is a beast. He has the potential to be the best tight end around. Watching him catch and blow defenses up is a lot of fun. He continues to improve every game. Then there is Jackson. 180 pounds of speed and heart. When you see him play you have to know he is full of heart and that makes a player in the NFL a great player.

Finally there is the injury plague. What a loss in Andrews. You can tell the team had a lot running on Andrews. I am sorry to see that happen. In the NFL teams must be able to work thru injuries. Then Bradly goes down, this was huge. He was just turning into the heart of the defense. This guy will be back and when he does this team will be so much better. Then Gaither goes and this is not huge but gets us the chance for Witherspoon. Witherspoon, Bradly and Gocong will be the next best trio in line backers, you watch. I do not think Curtis is a big blow but it does effect the timing in the offense and we will see the offense get better everyweek.

That is what it is all about, getting better everyweek. Eagles will peak in the end of the season and that should scare the other teams. Look out for improvement as the weeks pass. The Eagles are on the right path to the end of the season and that should be all you want in a team. The only thing I want for Christmas is for Andy to realize in the last quarter of the game and you need a drive to win, you are aloowed to run the ball. RUN THE BALL.

RUN THE BALL

This concept is easy. Running the ball wins games. The run game is so very important to a teams success. Especially when the O-line is hurt or playing a strong pass rush team. Weaver up the middle was great but no enough. Mcnabb had an OK game. Some bad passes and some dropped balls but when you look at the last driver, run the ball could have won this game. No time outs and 4 minutes plus left in the game. A shot gun ply is not what we need. Line up and pound the middle of that defense. The Eagles have the most talented, athletic and one of the biggest lines in the NFL and we can run the ball. The play calling has to be fixed in these big games. Weaver up the middles was a success but not enough of it was used. Our defense played OK like the offense, some mistakes but not bad. They were tired. Too much passing and not enough running will always kill the Eagles. When the game is close you need to control the game. I am glad the team did not hang their heads and fought but the play calling needs to improve. This is now ten years of this, lets see a change now.

Eagles Dallas Game

I cannot wait for Sunday 8pm. This will tell me a lot about the birds. The Eagles can take first place and make a big push for the strong finish. Mcnabb needs to be ready to perform and the Oline better be prepared like last week. The Eagles can win any game if they are ready. As you can see, when they do not prepare, we get a Raiders game. That was ridiculous. This team has talent and I do not know any other team that rotates everyone off the bench to play and contribute in every game. Can anyone tell me if another team does it like the birds? How impressive to see everyone in there doing something great. The players are athletic and aggressive with a lot of smarts. This should be a great game. GO EAGLES!
